The Story

A little about who is behind A lemon Garden 😊 That would be me, Sarah. I am 48 years old, and I am married with 3 children, 20, 17 and 15 and a house full of animals. I live in a small village to the west of Paris. I was born in Australia and moved to the UK when I was 8 with my British parents. I have one sister, who lives in London, with her husband and children. I lived in the UK for 30 years before moving to France with my French husband.

I qualified as a yoga teacher with Yogacampus in London, accredited by the British Wheel of Yoga, 12 years ago and have since studied yoga with various teachers inc. David Swenson – Ashtanga Yoga, Judith Hanson Lasater – Restorative Yoga, Max Strong – Breathing Workshops and more recently Menopause Yoga with Petra Coveney. I have been practising yoga for 25 years now, having been dragged along reluctantly to a class by my then boyfriend assuring me that I would like it. How right he was!

I have been vegetarian since I was 17 but looking back at my old vegetarian self, I was not a healthy eater at all, I simply stopped eating meat! My diet today is a far cry from my muffin, chocolate, and toast diet days of the past. I love being out in nature and I enjoy cooking and experimenting with nutritional foods. I also believe strongly in the concept of ‘one health’ and that our health is inseparably linked to the health of our environment.

I have been reading articles, books, and listening to experts on the area of health and yoga for years, devouring magazines, and more recently podcasts. The more I read, the more I wanted to learn! I have worked in finance for most of my adult life, but recent life changing events prompted me to follow my passion and pursue a career in the wellness field.

So, adding to my yoga teaching qualification, I am now so happy to have qualified as a certified Health Coach. I studied a 550 hr course with the College of Naturopathic Medicine in the UK, which has recently been voted the Best College 2021 by IHCAN Educational awards. It was a wonderful learning experience, which incorporated all areas of health from exercise, optimum nutrition and learning about all the systems of the body. The course covered sleep, stress management, energy fluctuations, aging healthily, detox, gut health, maintaining weight, to name but a few. We were then taught how to use all this information to help facilitate change in our clients. To help our clients obtain their goals, achieve optimum health and basically be the best version of themselves.

I love that I can now combine these two complementary skills, a yoga teacher and a health coach.

Why A Lemon Garden? I wanted to find a name that could incorporate all areas of health and wellbeing, a kind of sanctuary and sunny, welcoming place to settle down and participate or learn about ways to have a healthier lifestyle. When we feel healthy, we feel so much better, and when we feel vibrant and alive, it affects our mental health and this all makes us a better person in society, as a wife, as a mother, as a friend, as a coach and a teacher!
